Jesus Overcomes His Disciple's Spiritual Dullness (Mark 8:14-21)

May 5, 2013 Preacher: Eric Douma Series: Mark

Scripture: Mark 8:14–21

In Mark 8:14-21 we read of Jesus questioning the disciples about why they don't understand who he is after seeing the miraculous feedings. Jesus' verbal challenge directed at the disciples was designed to pull them out of their spiritual slumbers. In their hardness of heart, the disciples were so wrapped up into their own world of physical needs that they had failed to understand the significance of Jesus' miracles.

We all can take away from this message that we, like the disciples, have hardened hearts that can only be made sensitive to the gospel through the power of God's word. We must also conclude that we, like the disciples, have seen far too much evidence from the Scriptures as to who Christ is to remain in unbelief. In this message we learn the truth of Christ's admonition in Luke 12:48 when he declared, "To whom much is given, much is required."
