In Mark 10:28-31 we see Jesus promise that forsaking the world to follow Him will yield the benefits of being adopted into the family of God. This promise was important because many of the disciples and many subsequent followers would lose their family and all they had in order to follow Christ. Jesus also promises His followers persecution and eternal life. Persecution is used by God for our benefit (Romans 5:3-4) because through trials God demonstrates that our faith is genuine as He strengthens us in our faith through the tribulations of life. The most important promise for the believer, however, is eternal life. Christ loves His purchased flock so much that we are guaranteed a resurrection and an eternal home with our great God and Savior!
