In Mark 10:32-34 Jesus is walking to Jerusalem with His disciples. The resolute manner in which Jesus is heading towards the cross is a frightening display of His messianic credentials and His divinity (Isaiah 50:7). Jesus also predicts His suffering, death, and subsequent resurrection for the third time. Each time Jesus predicts His passion (Mark 8:31; 9:31; 10:34) the disciples fail to understand the necessity of the cross. In this lesson we probe the underlying reasons why human beings consider the cross foolishness, and we probe into why the cross was necessary.
