Do We Understand the Scriptures and the Power of God? (Mark 12:18-27)
June 8, 2014 Preacher: Eric Douma Series: Mark
Scripture: Mark 12:18–27
In Mark 12:18-27 we witness a debate between Jesus and the Sadducees about the resurrection. The Sadducees didn't believe in the resurrection or the afterlife and were consequently focused merely on life - here and now. Jesus refutes the Sadducees by first proving that the resurrection does not contain the old imperfect relationships such as marriage. He argues that in the resurrection believers will be like angels who aren't given away in marriage. Jesus also proves the existence of the resurrection by appealing to God's covenant keeping nature. Jesus reasons from Exodus 3:6 that because God is faithful to His covenant promises to the patriarchs He must raise the dead. God, after all, is not the God of dead men, but of the living! Come and hear about the great covenant keeping God that we serve.
