Abide Through Faith and Love (1 John 3:23-24)
February 26, 2017 Preacher: Bob DeWaay
Scripture: 1 John 3:23-24
John gives two basic commands of biblical Christianity: to believe in Christ and love other Christians. To believe in “the name” implies faith in Christ which involves the biblical teaching about the person and work of Christ. The failure to teach the biblical doctrine of Christ leaves people with blind sentimentality rather than saving faith. We need love to be defined from the bible as well. Another repeated theme in John is to abide in Christ. Here we learn that those who obey His teachings are the ones who truly abide. It is important to know that believing fundamental Christian truths is necessary to calm our troubled hearts. It is important to reject the false claims of “progressive” Christianity and stay put in Christ.
