Overcoming Deception (1 John 4:4-6)
April 2, 2017 Preacher: Bob DeWaay
Scripture: 1 John 4:4-6
In the previous sermon, John has shown us how to test the spirits. Now we learn how to go forward in the truth of the gospel and avoid deception. Those who preach Christ should never be intimidated but remain strong. The word for “overcome” mean “conquer” or "defeat.” We overcome because we are in Christ who Himself has overcome the world. God is eternal and all powerful while Satan and evil are not eternal and not omnipotent. Thus greater is He who is in us. We should never try to speak the world’s message in order to gain the world’s favor. Deception is a word that means to wander from the right path. The Bible tells us what the right path as faith and obedience keep us on it.
