In Romans 9:1-5 Paul sets forth the great blessings and promises that God had given to Israel. Yet despite this favor that God showed to Israel, Paul teaches that Israel was accursed because they were separated from Christ. The question that Paul’ audience would have been asking is, “If God is faithful to His promises, what happened to the promises that were given to Israel?” Paul will demonstrate from Romans 9-11 that God will be faithful to both the remnant of Israel and the nation as a whole. This will prove to Paul’s audience that God is faithful to every promise He makes.
