Safe in God's Revealed Plan (Ephesians 1:8b-10)
Scripture: Ephesians 1:8b-10
This section of Ephesians is about God’s administration of His own universe. This is called “mystery” not because it is secret, but because if God had not revealed it, we would not know it. The pagans in Paul’s day made a lot of money selling access to cryptic mysteries. But the true mystery is revealed in Christ and is public truth. God put forth His plan of redemption for all to see through Christ’s redeeming work. Paul teaches that God is fully in charge of His universe, using the terminology of a household manager. In this case, it is the whole universe that is under His administration. God rules His universe for His glory and the benefit of believers. Revealed truth means that we can know who God is, what He said, what His plan is, and how to be right with God. There is no secret to be sold to religious consumers. The Bible speaks clear, meaningful words and is not encrypted. We end with a comparison of the mystery of godliness (Christ and His message) and the mystery of lawlessness (antichrist and his evil message).
