The Samaritans Receive Christ and are Received by His Apostles (Acts 8:13-15)

July 31, 2016 Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Acts of the Apostles

Scripture: Acts 8:13-15

The wording of the text here hints at the idea that Simon viewed Philip as someone he could purchase magic arts from. It says that Simon was “devoted” to Philip. We will soon see that Simon was not right with God. Simon’s signs glorified himself while Philip’s exalted Christ. We discuss the fact that Simon was baptized along with the others. Then we discuss the Samaritans reception of the gospel and how that was a reversal of what had happened in Luke 9:53. At that incident, John and James wanted to call down fire of judgment. In a total reversal, in Acts 8 John comes to pray for Samaritans to receive the Holy Spirit who is associated with fire in Acts 2:3.
