A Father and His Two Lost Sons - Part 2 (Luke 15:22-32)

June 18, 2017 Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Topical

Scripture: Luke 15:22-32

This Sunday School is part two from archives of Bob DeWaay. Part one was used in Sunday School class March 8 under title of the same name, part one - Luke 15:11-21)

When the father of the prodigal received him back as a repentant sinner, the older brother was offended. We see by examining the text of Luke in its cultural background that the older brother’s attitude was sinful and dishonoring to his father. This brother represents the Pharisees in Jesus’ parable. This brother resented that his father showed love and forgiveness to the younger brother. The older brother claimed to have his own friends and at least wanted a goat to go and party with them. He rejected his father and his younger brother. Thus he was like the Pharisees who rejected Christ and were offended that He ate with sinners. There is a strong gospel message in this lesson.
