Christ’s Death, Burial and Resurrection - Pt 2 (Acts 13:28-32)

March 17, 2019 Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Acts of the Apostles

Scripture: Acts 13:28-32

In this session we begin with a discussion of the doctrine of original sin which some deny. The Bible says that in Adam "all die" (1Corinthians 15:22). Many people are looking for answers to their own emotional needs and questions that may not be directly addressed in the Bible. The church in history has created many practices and ideas to help people with their feelings and concerns; but many of these practices, like infant baptism, are not taught in the Bible. Neither is the 'age of accountability' which others have proposed. We discuss these matters and study pertinent scriptures.

We need to know what the Bible says about being in Adam or in Christ. Jesus bore the curse of sin when He died on the cross. The term "cross" in  Acts 13:29 is literally "tree" or "wood" in the Greek. This is an allusion to Deuteronomy 21:22-23. We read and discuss Isaiah 53:1-11 and its implications concerning God's purpose in the suffering of His Messiah. At the end of the class we discuss the issue of emergence theory as believed by those who call themselves "progressive" and where that comes from.
