Wisdom for Life in the World: Proverbs 6:1-19

August 20, 2023 Speaker: Eric Douma Series: Proverbs

Scripture: Proverbs 6:1-9

In this message taken from Proverbs 6:1-19 we examine four teachings that Solomon gave on wisdom for life in the world. The first teaching focused on how we ought not to seek to be consigners of other people’s financial obligations. We conclude that while we must honor our word and pay back our personal debts, it is indeed foolish to cosign for others. In the second teaching we learn the importance of the work ethic, and we also learn about the devastation brought about by those unwilling to work. The third teaching focuses our attention on the importance of not spreading unnecessary division amongst other people for our own personal gain. We may contend for the faith (Jude 3), but we should otherwise seek to prevent divisions among people. Finally we learn in the fourth teaching about the seven sins that God hates. In these we learn to not bear false witness and to be people dedicated to the truth.
