In this class, we consider in greater depth YHWH’s sudden, evening encounter with Moses, who enters into the lodging place of his newly commissioned prophet and deliverer in order to put him to death. Only his Midianite wife’s almost as sudden reflex to respond in faith atones for his sinful neglect to circumcise his firstborn son. In this failure, Moses’ had broken God’s everlasting covenant with Abraham and had severed himself from his chosen, believing, righteous offspring.
